How to Live More Intentionally in Your Everyday Life

If you’ve been looking to live more intentionally, this blog post is for you. Maybe, to some extent or another, you’ve been going through life on autopilot mode. In other words, you’ve just been doing whatever you’re used to doing, without taking the time to reevaluate. Making the shift to intentionality, however, is a great starting point to living a more well-aligned life. So, without further ado, here are some ways to do just that!

1- When making decisions, ask yourself, “what would my truest, best self do?”

My post Questions to Ask Yourself to Connect with Your Higher Self offers some more specific versions of this question as it pertains to various areas of life. Living intentionally starts with having at least a general sense of who you want to be. The more clarity you have in this area, the better, as this gives you that much more insight on how to live accordingly. Realize that your higher self doesn’t have to wait for the right circumstances to start showing up. In fact, by aligning your everyday actions with your higher self right now, you’re bringing yourself that much closer to those circumstances you’ve been dreaming of!

2- Write out your intentions for a given day, week, month, project, area of life, etc.

Not only write them down, but better yet, refer to them as you go! Consider this your roadmap for how to navigate a particular time. As per the examples given in this tip, this can apply to a unit of time or a specific venture, whether there’s a set timeframe attached to it or not. The more detail you can provide yourself, while still remaining flexible for unexpected variables, the better.

3- Think before you speak and act.

While not all regrets are preventable (head to Monthly Mindset Shift: How to Combat Regret for more on why this is okay), opting against impulsivity is sure to reduce the amount of regret you experience throughout your life. Of course, this doesn’t equate to overthinking every little move or word that comes out of your mouth. All it means is that when it matters most, giving your words and actions a little extra consideration beforehand can go a long way.

4- Consider how your decisions today will affect you (and others involved) in the future.

In the same vein as the last tip, thinking ahead can save you from making some missteps. While certain things may not matter much down the line, other things will (even some you may not expect), and they should be treated with a higher level of priority. For instance, suppressing your feelings about one relatively small issue within a relationship may not feel as though it will affect your future. However, this could easily lead to a pattern of suppressing your feelings about increasingly significant issues. Before you know it, your resentment will be through the roof, as you’ve unintentionally telegraphed to yourself that your feelings take a backseat to the other person’s.

By choosing wisely (and intentionally) today, you’re saving yourself from months or even years of unhealthy, destructive patterns.

5- Journal about the outcomes of your decisions for future reference.

Include how you felt in the aftermath, what results you saw or didn’t see, etc. These are great things to look back on when faced with similar decisions going forward. No two situations are exactly alike, but similar situations may, in some cases, have similar winning solutions. Within those similar winning solutions, you should notice a key ingredient—intentionality!

The bottom line…

Living intentionally is how we step into our own power in our lives. It’s how you ensure that your life is wholly YOURS. Take ownership of your life, and watch how beautifully “you” it becomes!
