Vision Board Upgrade: Bring Your Visions to Life

And just like that, it’s vision board season! Personally, I think the season to make a vision board is whenever you feel most inspired to do so, but naturally, the end of the year tends to be a good cue for that inspiration. So, if you’re working on yours now, you’ve come to the right place. Look no further for some tips on how to make your vision board aid in bringing your visions to life!

1- Get as clear and specific as possible about your visions, as this will inform what images you choose.

If you only have generic visions, like getting into a healthy relationship, you might choose just any cute couples pictures. To dig beneath the surface, ask yourself more details about that healthy relationship you want. What types of dates would you and your partner go on? What would be the dynamic of your relationship? (Ex: playful, romantic, affectionate, motivating, etc.). These questions can certainly have more than one answer; it’s just helpful to refine your vision. For instance, if you want to have a “power couple” dynamic in a relationship, you can then search for pictures that match that. The more clearly your visions are conveyed, the more connected you’ll feel to them!

2- When possible, insert yourself and/or things specific to you in the pictures.

For example, if one of your visions is to travel to Italy, you can take it a step further than just including a picture of your dream Italian destination. You can edit a picture of yourself into said picture! If one of your visions is to gain a certain number of followers on Instagram, you can edit a picture with your username/profile and that number of followers! By doing this, you’re training your brain to see these things as well within reach. They’re not some faraway dreams; they’re actually attainable. Half the battle is imagining that what you want is possible for you.

3- Choose visions that are realistic for their intended timeframes.

Some people choose to create a timeless vision board with their goals for their entire lives. In this case, you can aim higher for the stars than ever! However, if you’re looking to make a shorter-term vision board, say for 2026, set yourself up for *attainable* success. Of course, your life absolutely can change drastically in a year, so there’s nothing wrong with being ambitious. At the same time, if you set goals that feel overwhelming for the course of a year, you may get more easily discouraged if you don’t achieve them within that timeframe. Choosing just-ambitious-enough goals is a balancing act. Ultimately, you can always fine-tune your vision board as you go along!

4- Put your vision board somewhere you’ll see it regularly.

This could be your phone or computer background if it’s digital, your desk or nightstand if it’s physical, etc. If you forget about it after making it, that kind of defeats the purpose! That’s not to say you should stare at it all day long and obsessively fixate over it (lol). It’s just to say, your visions should be at the forefront of your mind. It’s a testament to the beauty of having dreams. Yes, it may feel vulnerable and scary, but it’s also what life is all about! If you’re not *healthily* obsessed with your dreams, maybe it’s time to dream bigger, or at least more authentically. Sometimes we choose goals based on what we think we should want, or what we view as most attainable, rather than what we deeply desire. It can take time to discover your deep desires, in which case, it’s okay to explore until you figure them out.

All of that to say, when you do have strong visions for what you want, it’s helpful to have them in front of you. It’s a constant reminder to take forward-moving actions toward those visions, which is bound to help you get closer to making them happen!

The bottom line…

Visuals can be incredibly powerful in shifting our mindsets, and in turn, our actions and outcomes. That’s all the more reason to optimize them for maximum effect. I hope this vision board guide helped you upgrade yours!
