5 Tips for a Life Revamp

If you’ve been looking to revamp your life but don’t know where to begin, this blog post is for you! Setting out to change our entire lives tends to be a recipe for overwhelm. Is it any wonder? That’s a pretty tall order, especially without a clear starting point. Today, we’re discussing ways to start small. After all, the biggest changes tend to be products of many little ones. So, let’s dive in!

1- Figure out what changes you want to make and why you want to make them.

If your sole reasoning for wanting a revamp is something external (ex: your milestone birthday, a new season or new year, everyone else around you is revamping, etc.), chances are, it’s not going to stick. That’s not to say that those external factors can’t contribute to your inspiration to make a change. They absolutely can, as long as there’s something within you that genuinely desires it, as that internal force is much more sustainable. Often times, personal experience creates that lightbulb moment. With that being said, now’s the time to reflect on exactly what you want to change and why. It’s the time to soul search and dig deep for those answers (the deeper the reasoning, the better). When you find them, it should be easier for you to create a well-thought-out game plan for success. Once again, this game plan can consist of numerous small actions that add up to your big picture goals.

2- Declutter (literally, figuratively, physically, digitally, etc.).

My post Decluttering Tips + 5 Things to Declutter in Your Spring Cleaning gives a whole rundown on decluttering, so go check it out if you haven’t! In a nutshell, if you have things in your life that aren’t serving you well anymore, they’re taking up physical and mental space that they don’t need to be. These things can include clothing, paperwork, screenshots in your phone’s camera roll, relationships, habits, and everything in between. (Yes, that’s quite the wide range!) You’d be surprised how much lighter you feel after purging this unnecessary weight. Ultimately, you’re making space for things that are so much more aligned with your current self. You can use the goals you established in #1 to help inform what you should eliminate. This is a great way to begin revamping your life! The things you desire can’t flow freely into your life if there’s simply nowhere for them to fit. So, make that room, and watch your life become a magnet for newness!

3- Make new habits that serve you well.

Different habits work for different people and for different goals. It can’t hurt to try on a new habit for size if you think it’d benefit you. The worst thing that happens is you realize it’s not for you, and you try something else- no big deal! Again, using your goals from #1 as reference can help you decide what habits to try. As self-explanatory as it may sound, life changes come largely from the consistent changes that you make in your day-to-day. That certainly doesn’t mean doing anything inauthentic to you, nor does it necessarily mean doing anything drastic. It just means experimenting with new approaches and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to grow and evolve. Better habits will allow you to step into the version of yourself that’s aligned with the life you want to create!

4- Regularly refer to whatever source(s) inspired the want for change within you.

It’s easy to feel inspired immediately after listening to an insightful podcast. But how can you make that inspiration stick? Keep listening to it and others like it! When a piece of content alters your brain chemistry to the point of sparking something powerful within you, it deserves more than one listen. And if you can find similar content that makes you feel the same way, the more the merrier! Those original sources, though, should help bring you back to the height of your inspiration, making them most important.

5- Appreciate the parts of your life that you already love as they are.

As big of a life revamp as you may want, chances are, there’s something (if not multiple things) you value about your current life. Gratitude for what you already have is bound to attract more things to be grateful for. There are different perspectives that a life revamp can stem from. For instance, you can want to change your life because you absolutely hate it and feel desperate for that change. Alternatively, you can want to change your life because you know how much potential it has to get even better than it currently is. When you operate from that second perspective, you’re more likely to see long-term positive change. The moral of the story is NOT that you have to fake love your life. In fact, if you don’t love it right now, that’s perfectly okay! But if you’re able to shift your focus on how amazing it can become with some extra TLC, that’s a great start.

The bottom line…

Depending on how much change you want to make and what kinds of change, these tips might only scratch the surface. However, regardless, they’re great for building momentum. Again, diving headfirst into huge changes usually isn’t the most realistic or sustainable. These small actions and mindset shifts, though, can gradually lead to bigger ones. The life revamp of your dreams is well within reach. You just have to activate it, which these tools should help you do!
